billccDr. Bill Meyer would like patients to be aware of study results released last week in Turkey linking PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) with an increased health risk for metabolic and cardiovascular issues due to elevated levels of adipsin. Adipsin is a protein secreted into the bloodstream involved in suppressing infection. According to study leader, Dr. Mehmet Calan, women with PCOS have adipsin levels approximately 1/3 higher than those without PCOS.

Weight was also found to be connected with adipsin levels, regardless of whether or not study participants had PCOS.  Participants with a BMI of 25+ had significantly higher levels of adipsin compared to those who had a BMI less than 25.
